Five girls and four boys from Brentwood High School just took one step closer to qualifying for the state track and field meet. They each placed in the top four of at least one event on Saturday at the Class 2 District 2 meet in Monroe City. That puts them in the Class 2 sectional meet this Saturday at Central High School in Park Hills. The top four in each event there will qualify for the state championships in Jefferson City on May 22-23.
Brentwood’s male qualifiers are Jacob Clay and Kaylon Jenkins in the 100-meter dash, Jenkins in the 200, and those two plus Corey Carroll and Justice Harris in both the 400 relay and 800 relay. Together they scored 49 points, good enough for seventh place among 12 teams.
The female qualifiers are Sophia Rivera in the shot put and discus throw, Air’shay Lampkin in the long jump and 100, and the 400 relay team of Lampkin, Adrienne Silerio, Alesha Williams and Leanna Baudendistel. The five scored 40 points for eighth place among 11 teams.
Rivera and Clay are the only ones in the group who have qualified for a sectional before. It’s her third year in a row in the shot and discus. He made it in the 400 relay last year.
Brentwood will also take two alternates to the sectional meet: Deshaun Johnson and Abby Harper.
