Student Caroline Vandervoort represented Brentwood High School at the Missouri Scholars Academy from June 12 to July 2 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Founded in 1985, the academy gives Missouri high school juniors opportunities to expand their educational and social skills. This summer they each chose to study one of four subjects: math, science, social studies or humanities.
“With this accomplishment and experience I have the opportunity to explore the medical field and see if it is what I would like to pursue in the future,” said Vandervoort, the daughter of James and Christine.
Students also participated in workshops and discussions led by guest speakers from around the U.S. The list included author and illustrator Earl “E.B.” Lewis, documentary filmmaker Mark Norwine and former astronaut Linda Godwin. Scholars had the option of watching a dress rehearsal of the Missouri Symphony Society, listening to Grammy-nominated storyteller Milbre Burch or joining discussions on a variety of current events.
