The Brentwood High School wrestling team pushed its record to 12-1 in dual, tri and quad meets with lopsided victories over Clayton, Ladue and Normandy Jan. 13 at BHS.

School size didn’t matter. Class 1 Brentwood outscored Class 2 Normandy by 54 points, Class 3 Clayton by 30 and Class 3 Ladue by 24. The biggest points came from the three Eagles who contributed two pins apiece at the quad: Narvell Jordan, Deshaun Johnson and Justin Harris.

On Saturday Brentwood took 17th among 24 schools at the St. Charles Invitational Tournament. Johnson scored one-third of the team’s points with two pins and a sixth-place finish at 152 pounds. It pushed his record to 33-5, the first Eagle to reach 30 wins this season.

That’s not bad for a guy who went 24-29 last year and barely made it to state with a fourth place at district. When recently asked “What are you driving toward this season?” Johnson smiled and said, “I’m driving toward state.”

BHS was the smallest high school in the St. Charles field, which comprised four Class 1 schools, eight Class 2’s, nine Class 3’s and three Class 4’s.
