Brentwood High School wrestlers and basketball players are putting their game faces back on this week after enjoying a holiday break.
The wrestling team, 7-1 in nontournament meets, last competed 19 days ago. It will face off against Chaminade and Burroughs in a tri meet at Burroughs starting at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 7 and at the St. John Vianney Tournament at 8 a.m. Jan. 9. Standouts include Deshaun Johnson 22-2, Gary Silerio 21-3, Chase Lynch 17-8, Justin Shipley 15-3 and Ricky McQuay 16-8.
The boys basketball team, 3-5, got the shortest vacation: eight days. They last played on Dec. 28 and will host Lift for Life at 7 p.m. Jan. 5. Charles “Butters” Jones leads the team in scoring and has put in 30, 26 and 22 points in recent games. Freshman Cade Jones scored 23 the day after Christmas.

The girls basketball team, 1-4, had the longest break, 27 days, though they practiced much of that time. They play three games in the John Burroughs Tournament this week — at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5 and 7 p.m. on both Jan. 6 and Jan. 8. Center Sophia Rivera leads in both scoring and rebounding. Nija Price might be back in the lineup as soon as Jan. 11 against Clayton at BHS.
