Silerio Unbeatable at Burroughs Tourney

Johnson, Lynch, Shipley take 2nd; team 4th

High finishes by Gary Silerio, Chase Lynch, Deshaun Johnson and Justin Shipley led the Brentwood High School wrestling team to fourth place among eight teams at the John Burroughs Tournament on Saturday.

Silerio won his weight class, 152 pounds, and pushed his record to 7-1. Taking second were Lynch at 126 pounds, Johnson at 160 and Shipley at 182.

Silerio won the first-place medal with five pins, an injury default and a forfeit. The senior is Brentwood’s most promising returner. Wrestling at 132 pounds last year, he went 43-12, including 1-2 at state.

Other returners with state meet experience are sophomore Lynch (25-31 last year), senior Johnson (24-29) and senior Joseph Dreyer (17-26). Off to great starts are Johnson, who is 7-1, and Lynch, 7-2.

Neal Bhattacharya (5-4) placed 5th and scored 18 team points at 113 pounds. He was pinned in 5:49 by Joshua Johnson of Sullivan (5-2), received a bye, was pinned in 1:53 by Brian Thornton of Lutheran St. Charles (8-1), received a bye, was pinned in 1:58 by Kordan Johnson of Ladue (6-4), received a bye, and was pinned in 0:55 by Trevon Robinson of Sumner (7-1).

Chase Lynch (7-2) placed 2nd and scored 41 team points at 126 pounds. He received two byes, pinned Andrew Keeney of John Burroughs (1-8) in 1:33, won a 14-6 major decision over Dalton Secrest of Sullivan (5-2), won a 16-9 decision over Keon Hollis of Sumner (5-3), received a bye and lost an 8-6 tiebreaker to Kyle Cody of Ladue (8-2).

Chrishawn Houston (4-5) placed 5th and scored 18 team points at 132 pounds. He received two byes, was pinned in 1:22 by Daryus Webb of Sumner (7-1), lost a 10-6 decision to A.J. Bryant of Ladue (5-2), was pinned in 5:54 by Evan Williams of John Burroughs (5-4), was pinned in 0:32 by Trevor Key of Sullivan (7-0), and pinned Matt McNieve of Priory (3-4) in 5:44.

Narvell Jordan (4-3) placed 4th and scored 25 team points at 138 pounds. He received a bye, lost a 16-0 technical fall in 4:07 to Alexander Morose of Ladue (10-0), won a 10-7 decision over Ethan Peregoy of Sullivan (4-3), pinned Zach Schmidt of Burroughs (3-6) in 1:17, lost a 9-6 decision to Anthony Miller of Sumner (5-3), lost by injury default at 2:00 to Andrew Abad of Priory (8-1) and pinned Adam Sieber of Clayton (3-6) in 3:29.

Caleb Murphy (2-7) placed 6th and scored 12 team points at 145 pounds. He was pinned in 0:15 by Sam Mulligan of Burroughs (9-0), received a bye, was pinned in 0:10 by Park Ross of Clayton (8-1), received a bye, lost a 9-1 major decision to Jack Flavin of Priory (4-3), was pinned in 1:23 by Kale Dudley of Sullivan (5-2), and was pinned in 4:37 by Chance Costello of Sumner (3-5).

He pinned Kendal Whited of Ladue (9-1) in 3:29, pinned Jack Nelson of Burroughs (4-5) in 0:33, pinned Henry Mansfield of Clayton (1-6) in 1:53, pinned Greg Rolwes of Priory (7-2) in 0:57, won by injury default at 0:00 over Richard Snellenberger of Lutheran St. Charles (0-7), pinned Dontrez Banks of Sumner (5-3) at 1:33, and won by forfeit over Jesse Harms of Sullivan (3-4).

Deshaun Johnson (7-1) placed 2nd and scored 46 team points at 160 pounds. He pinned Dhruv Shetty of Burroughs (5-4) in 1:23, pinned Nathan Abad of Priory (2-7) in 0:46, won by injury default at 0:00 over Donte Bams of Sumner (1-7), pinned Toby Key of Sullivan (4-3) in 1:45, pinned Maxwell Friedman of Clayton (1-6) in 0:37, pinned Kory Carter of Lutheran St. Charles (4-3) in 0:41, and was pinned in 1:14 by Jacob Orsay of Ladue (10-0).

Joseph Dreyer (4-4) placed 5th and scored 18 team points at 170 pounds. He was pinned in 2:58 by Tony Kraus of Priory (7-0), was pinned in 0:42 by Dalton Ward of Sullivan (6-1), lost an 8-0 major decision to Aidan Morley of Ladue (6-4), pinned Logan Saputo of Clayton (2-5) in 1:32, received two byes, and was pinned in 4:03 by Jason Kemp of Burroughs (6-3).

Justin Shipley (5-2) placed 2nd and scored 40 team points at 182 pounds. He received a bye, pinned Fernando Hall of Clayton (3-6) in 0:28, was pinned in 2:54 by Landon Vanmeter of Sullivan (7-0), pinned Louis Rothweiler-Lightfoot of Burroughs (4-5) in 0:58, lost a 9-4 decision to Leor Goldfarb of Ladue (7-3), pinned Andrew Rodgers of Sumner (6-2) in 1:29, and pinned Elliot Huff of Lutheran St. Charles (4-5) in 1:14.

Buddy Karsten (4-5) placed 5th and scored 18 team points at 220 pounds. Ricky McQuay (6-3) placed 4th and scored 28 team points at 285 pounds. He received two byes, was pinned in 0:37 by Tom Bolstad of Burroughs (9-0), lost a 13-7 decision to Austin Schaefferkoetter of Sullivan (5-2), was pinned in 0:57 by Jeremiah Austin of Clayton (8-1), received a bye, and pinned Darrion Mills of Sumner (4-4) in 1:45.
