Brentwood High School senior Tara Lochmoeller today was named the school’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete of the year.

Every spring each high school in the St. Louis area submits a candidate to the newspaper. This year Lochmoeller is one of 151 honorees who are profiled in a special section of the May 5 edition. Lucas Jones from BHS received the award last year.
Academically Lochmoeller is ranked No. 3 in her graduating class of 54 students. She’s not yet certain where she’ll go to college or what she’ll major in but she’s interested in physical therapy. She received the UMSL Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Foreign Languages and is a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society and the Student Council. She is also active in her church.
Athletically she is among the top three scorers on the BHS soccer team, which is challenging to win the conference title. A center midfielder, she missed her entire junior season with a back injury after being named first team all-conference as a sophomore and starting as a freshman. The injury also forced her to miss most of her junior volleyball season and all of her senior season.
“I was wearing a back brace so I was bent over for four months,” Lochmoeller said. “Once I took that off I had to get used to standing up straight and sitting in chairs straight.”

Said BHS soccer coach Cory Grage, “It’s great having her leadership and ability to distribute a ball. She can play from side to side and that’s a nice thing to have.”
In the Post-Dispatch profile she said her role model is her father, Steve Lochmoeller, who was recently elected to the Brentwood Board of Aldermen.
