The Brentwood High School baseball team was a friendly host to Northridge Preparatory School last week — at first.

The Chicago area team was in town on a spring break trip on April 1. They enjoyed a tour of Busch Stadium before coming to Brentwood Park to play the Eagles. Announcer Ed Wright welcomed them over the P.A. system, told the crowd about them and made a good natured Cards-vs.-Cubs joke. BHS’s Mike Imergoot offered a warm handshake to Northridge’s Pat Hunt when the coaches and umpires met on the diamond before the game.

But then the game started. After trailing 2-0, the Eagles woke up like a hungry bear, scoring six runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth and sixth to rudely send the Knights home with an 11-2 defeat.

It was Brentwood’s season opener and Imergoot has a number of reasons to feel good about the upcoming season. He has a new starting pitcher in John Bischoff, who transferred from another school and is 1-0 after striking out six in three innings. Skylar Sappington earned the save.

Imergoot also has some hitters. Alex Cobb went three-for-three and Bradley Jones and Sappington each went two-for-three.

The Eagles are scheduled to play host to Lift for Life at 4:15 p.m. on April 7 and to McCluer North at 4:15 p.m. on April 8.

Following was Brentwood’s batting order against Northridge:
1. Charles Jones, shortstop
2. Bradley Jones, center field
3. John Bischoff, pitcher
4. Skylar Sappington, second base, relief pitcher
5. Tyler Pryor-Hall, third base
6. Stephen Suntrup Jr., catcher
7. Alex Cobb, right field
8. Morgan Murphy, first base
9. Eddie Wright, left field
