Dennis and Mary Keller realize that they’re not the first ones to open a drive-through coffee shop at 2944 S. Brentwood Boulevard. Their Brentwood Perk, which opened today next to Brentwood Material Co., is in the same building as the Coffee Shop, Java Dave’s, Queen Bean and The Perk.

“But the Brentwood Perk is the best one that’s ever been here,” said Dennis with a smile.

If growing a business is anything like growing a family, he and Mary might just succeed. Between the two of them they’ve raised seven children. Hers, from a previous marriage and with the last name Lowe, all graduated from Brentwood High School: Jim, Richard, Frank and Diana. His are Dennis Jr., Crystal and Rachael Keller.

The Brentwood Perk, with its two drive-through lanes, serves coffee roasted in St. Louis by Mississippi Mud Coffee Co. They also serve tea, soda, smoothies, parfaits, muffins, pie, soup, panini and sandwiches on bagels. But the Kellers are quick to add that the menu may change based on their customers’ needs.

Veterans can get a free cup of coffee on Mondays.

They’re open from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday.
