But starting pitcher McGehee allows only 1 earned run in 4 innings

In high school baseball, St. Pius X still has Brentwood’s number. Yesterday, 10 months after knocking the Eagles out of the state baseball playoffs by a score of 14-2, the Lancers routed BHS again. They came to Brentwood Park and ruined the host team’s season opener with a 10-0 thrashing in five innings.
The Eagles got only two hits off winning pitcher Jacob Hirner. Brentwood starter Dylan McGehee wasn’t so shabby himself. In four innings the senior surrendered only one earned run, though his teammates’ wild throws and passed balls made the score 3-0 before Seamus Saunders started pitching in the fifth inning. Saunders, a sophomore, gave up seven runs, three earned, before Connor Hancock replaced him for the last two outs.
Only three Brentwood hitters made it to first base. Eric Suntrup reached twice. Sophomore Mike Mills and freshman Skylar Sappington each got their first-ever varsity hits.
Brentwood plays at Orchard Farm on Thursday and hosts Bayless on Friday and Crossroads on April 8. The Bayless game is the conference opener. All three games start at 4:15 p.m.
Like St. Pius, Orchard Farm is usually a tough team, and an eye-opening way to start the season.
“Our first two games are really tough,” said Brentwood coach Mike Imergoot said last week. “I look at them as exhibition games, get everybody in, because the next game is Bayless.”
Speaking of the conference schedule, St. Pius X beat Valley Park 16-1 last Friday.
