A brand new congregation met in a familiar Brentwood church on Sunday night for their first Christmas gathering. Close to 100 people attended the candlelight service of Christ Church St. Louis at the 89-year-old Brentwood Congregational Church building on Brentwood Boulevard at Eulalie.

Christ Church holds a weekly service at 5 p.m. Sunday. They share the building with the Brentwood Congregational United Church of Christ, which meets on Sunday mornings.Christ Church’s lead pastor Jud Brooks said they started out at someone’s house in Richmond Heights and have been meeting in the historic church in Brentwood for 12 weeks.

The candlelight service was all about the Christmas story, in words and song. At the end, congregants held lit candles and sang “Silent Night.”

Christ Church meets at 2400 S. Brentwood Blvd. Its website is www.christchurchstl.com.
