Practices began in all five of Brentwood High School’s varsity sports last week, as the teams get ready for schedules that will take them into late October, hopefully longer.
Though there’s been a lot of buzz about the football team with its new head coach, new formations and intense summer of preparation, the team with the most promise might be the one that’s smacking volleyballs around in the gym.
Coach Rick Czuppon’s volleyball machine has been the district champs for the past three years and all the key players from last season are back. They’re led by four seniors who are not only talented (one is the returning conference MVP) and improved (they all played together in select volleyball), but sick of losing in the sectional for the past three years.
Of the five sports, the football and softball teams play first, on August 26. Next come season openers in field hockey on Aug. 29, in boys’ soccer on September 2 and in volleyball on Sept. 7.
Season previews for all the BHS teams will come soon in The Brentwood Spirit.
